Mathematics
By following the Western Australian Curriculum, our objective is to develop numeracy skills so that our students:
- are confident, creative users and communicators of mathematics, able to investigate, represent and interpret situations in their personal and work lives and as active citizens;
- develop an increasingly sophisticated understanding of mathematical concepts and fluency with processes which helps to pose and solve problems and reason in Number and Algebra, Measurement, Geometry, Statistics and Probability; and
- recognise connections between the areas of mathematics and other disciplines and appreciate mathematics as an accessible and enjoyable discipline to study.
At Maylands Peninsula Primary School, we utilise the Mathletics program as part of a whole school approach to assist in the consolidation of numeracy skills. This engaging, online learning platform uses best-practice theories of gamified learning to provide valuable maths skill practise for students through their entire school journey.
